Behind the Chaos: YouTube, Bolder Athlete, and Chasing the Games
EverBold Newsletter: 03/27/25: #getbolder
Ever wonder what it’s like to juggle a YouTube channel, Instagram, a growing training program, CrossFit Games prep, and family life? Spoiler: It’s a circus, and I’m not always the ringmaster. I’m Jason—5-time Masters Champ, Bolder Athlete founder, and a guy who’s still figuring it out. Let’s pull back the curtain on this wild ride.
Here’s the deal: I’m a former wedding photographer and poker player turned fitness junkie, now living this whirlwind life with my family. One minute I’m programming workouts, the next I’m filming a day in the life video or trying to remember whose turn it is for movie night. It’s messy, it’s real, and it’s all fueled by a stubborn drive to keep pushing—whether that’s for a sixth Games title or just a quiet Sunday with my crew. Buckle up—here’s how it all shakes out.
YouTube: The Deadline Dash
I’ve got sponsor obligations to drop a YouTube video every week—think competition prep videos, training tips, or just me sweating it out. Sounds fun, right? It is, until I’m scrambling to film, edit, and hit “upload” by deadline. The pressure’s constant, like a barbell hovering over my chest mid-bench press. Some weeks, I’m tempted to ditch it and hide in my garage gym, but I push through—because I love sharing this journey with you, even when it’s a grind.
Instagram: The Balancing Act
Posting on Instagram? That’s its own beast. I’m aiming for valuable stuff—inspiration, snippets of my life—while weaving in sponsored posts. I only work with brands I use and trust, but mixing it all together still feels like herding cats. One day I’m flexing a PR, the next I’m hyping a product—trying to keep it real without losing the plot. It’s not easy, and I’m not pretending it is.
Bolder Athlete: Programming for the Ages
Then there’s Bolder Athlete, my baby that’s not even 2 years old but already boasts over 500 athletes. Two to three days a week, I’m locked in, crafting training sessions—warm-ups, workout notes, scaling options, you name it. Programming for 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60+ in one go? It’s a puzzle, and some days my brain’s fried by lunch. But seeing our athletes thrive on it—that’s the juice that keeps me going.
Training: Double Duty for the Games
Training for the 2025 CrossFit Games is no side hustle—it’s a beast. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, I’m hitting two sessions: a capacity blast at 6:30 a.m. for an hour, then 2-4 p.m. in my garage or the CrossFit gym. Saturdays? That’s a 3-hour marathon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—think smart training, challenging conditioning session, and me wondering if I’m still sane. It’s what it takes to chase that sixth title, but man, some days I’m just hanging on.
Family: Sundays and Slip-Ups
Family time’s my anchor, but I’ll be real—I’m off-balance. Sundays are meant to be sacred to family time. Weeknights we try to weave in game nights, movie nights, just us. But with Bolder Athlete booming and training eating my days, I’m stretched thin. My family is patient, but I’m counting the days ‘til things slow down and I can trade a laptop for more couch time with them. I’m not perfect at this, and that’s okay—I’m working on it.
The Win: Staying Sober
One thing I’m proud of? I’ve been sober since January 1, 2024. In this whirlwind, that’s a rock I stand on. No wine, just clarity—keeps me sharp for the chaos.
Fun Fuel: Tortilla Chips Save the Day
My quirky lifeline? Avocado oil Siete Tortilla Chips. A handful of those salty, crunchy beauties mid-day, and I’m grinning like I just hit a PR. Small wins, right? (No this isn’t sponsored, rather it’s a confession).
Your Takeaway: Embrace the Mess
I’m not some superhero juggling all this flawlessly—I drop balls, miss bedtimes, and occasionally curse my schedule. But I keep showing up, and that’s the trick. You don’t have to be perfect either—just bold. Pick one thing this week—train, rest, hug your people—and own it.
Stay Bold (and a little chaotic),
Jason
